2010 Award Winners

PTO awards were given to graduating seniors Carolyn Bissex of Melrose and Alyssa Savarino of Malden at the annual Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s senior lunch. Each scholarship was in the amount of $2,000. The awards were made in recognition of the students’ distinction and excellence in volunteerism and community service. The awards were given by Maia Moran, a Melrose resident and Past-President of the MVRCS PTO and current Mystic Valley PTO Award Chair.

PTO Elections

PTO elections were held on May 18th at the 7:00 pm Monthly Meeting!
“Help us help the school!”
All One (1)- Year positions were open. Town Reps and Executive Positions (Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President or Co-President (a 2 year term) were all up for election.
The Mystic Valley PTO elections were held in the multi-purpose room in the annex building. All general meetings are open to all and all parents are encouraged to attend. Next year (2010 -2011) is going to be exciting and we need all of your ideas and support.

Mystic Valley 10th Best IB School in the Nation
The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School was ranked as the 10th best International Baccalaureate High School in the country by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The magazine’s annual report examines nearly 22,000 high schools in the United States before ranking them based on their academic achievements. Mystic Valley was ranked 10th out of the 669 International Baccalaureate Diploma High Schools in America as well as in the top 8% of all high schools in the nation.
“Our International Baccalaureate Program at Mystic Valley continues to grow both in student numbers and scope. Our success with the program continues to furnish evidence of the high academic standards that prevail at Mystic Valley” stated Gordon Bradford, the head of the International Baccalaureate program at Mystic Valley.
Mystic Valley was named the 94th best high school in America by Newsweek magazine last year and was ranked in the top 8% of United States High Schools by US News & World Report in 2007.

Blankets and PJs are optional
We had full houses for our last 2 animated family friendly free films. On Fri., 2/5 families brought blankets and pajamas.Show started at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex “MPR”. Free screening but pizza, snacks and drinks were available to purchase beginning at 6:15 pm.
Proceeds benefitted MVRCS families impacted by Haitian earthquake. Thank you for your generosity, the PTO will try to match every donation! MV Girl Scouts also sold cookies.

PTO’s Fri. Night Flicks on Jan. 8 !
our Jan screening was held Fri., Jan. 8 at 6 pm was held in the Lower School Annex Multi Purpose Room. Families bring a blanket, enjoy the show and learn about our other events and fundraisers. Shows start at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex “MPR”. Refreshments are made available to purchase beginning at 6:15. Attendees were asked to bring a donation of a non perishable food or new toothbrush for a Free Bag of Popcorn. (Items will be donated to those in need.)
